Almost 15 years after Shilpa Shetty landed in an obscenity case when Hollywood star Richard Gere kissed her cheeks at a public event, the actress has been acquitted by a Mumbai court which watched that she seemed to be a victim of Gere’s act.
A court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ketki Chavan acquitted Shetty on January 18. A detailed order was made available on Monday. In 2007, Gere and Shetty had reunited for an AIDS awareness program in Rajasthan. On stage, Gere kissed the actress on the cheeks, causing a stir nationwide. “It appears that defendant Shilpa Shetty is the victim of the alleged act of defendant #1 (Richard Gere). Not a single element of any of the alleged offense is satisfied in the complaint?” said the court in the order.
